When did my love of cooking outdoors begin? Well at the beginning of the first lockdown! We were a month or two in and like most people my Wife and I were looking for something to keep us from going insane. My Wife Angela reminded me of a passing comment I made about a picture one of her colleagues had posted. It was a picture of a Big Green Egg and although I didn’t really know what it was at the time I liked the look of it. Mark Thomason was Angela’s colleague and he put me in touch with a BGE distributor so I have to thank Mark for not only introducing me to the joys of outdoor cooking but for reigniting my passion in food. Mark has a great website called Smoked Fine Food which is a great resource for recipes and cooking techniques.
I purchased my first egg from Nick at Meat Smoke Fire and he gave me all the advice I needed on egg size and the accessories needed to get me started. On June 1st 2020 I fired my egg up for the first time, using Nick’s getting started videos, and cooked what any respected newbie would cook, Chicken Wings!

Over the last couple of years I have gone on to cook many more complex dishes on the Egg from Brisket to Pizza with Curries, Steaks and even Roasted Coffee Beans attempted along the way. I say attempted as not all of these dishes were successful but that part is of the experience of learning. This Blog and Website is just a way for me to document both failures and successes and if anyone else gets any benefit from this, then well, happy days!
